Ohanaeze Ndigbo elects another president general in Port Harcourt

A prominent activist lawyer, Uche Nnam Okwukwu, has been elected president general of Ohanaeze N’digbo Worldwide at the organization’s convention in Port Harcourt.

Two presidents general have been elected in the last 24 hours to run the affairs of the apex socio-cultural organisation in Igboland.

Senator John Azuta-Mbata was elected at the organization’s meeting in Enugu, the heart of Igboland, reinforcing the “Igboness” of Igbo ethnic stock in Rivers State.

According to a statement by the returning officer at the Port Harcourt meeting,, Achi Achi, Okwukwu was returned unopposed during the convention.

The convention began on Thursday and ended on Friday.

In his acceptance speech, Okwukwu reportedly expressed gratitude to the delegates for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Igbo race during what he described as a critical time in their history.

He pledged to uphold the constitution of Ohanaeze N’digbo and to protect the interests of Igbos globally.

He listed his priorities to include engaging the Federal Government to secure the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and other political prisoners.

He also highlighted the importance of uniting the Igbo people, addressing longstanding grievances, and advocating the restructuring of Nigeria.
