The police in Ogun, on Wednesday , appealed to Governor Ibikunle Amosun to assist the command in the fight against crime in the state .
The call came when the management team of the command led by the state Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, paid Governor Amosun a courtesy visit in his Office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Iliyasu said that the purpose of the visit was to seek the support of the governor on how to combat crime and criminality in the state.
He lamented that the armed robbery, cultism and land grabbing had become rampant in the state, assuring that the police would do everything within its powers to ensure that the citizens of the state could sleep with their two eyes closed .
The police boss, however, urged institutions, stakeholders and communities to assist the command by giving useful information against crime in the state.
Responding, Governor Amosun , assured the police that his government would continue do everything possible to support the command by providing them workable equipment to bolster their activities.
He charged the police to embrace community policing, saying, “The best way to police is to get the locals involved “.
The governor also appreciated the efforts of the police in the fight against militant attacks in some riverine areas of the state.
He, therefore, identified kidnapping as the major crime rocking the state, as he called on the police to find a solution to the problem.
“That thing that is now rearing its ugly heads is this issue of kidnapping. I think we need to now think out of the box. We need to do more, we need to send the right signal that Ogun State will not be conducive for these criminals to operate,” Amosun said.
