The Corps Commander of Amotekun in Ogun State, Brigadier General A.I. Adedigba (retd.), has dismissed reports alleging underfunding of the state-owned security outfit, describing them as false, misleading, and baseless.

Reacting to the report on Thursday, Adedigba said Amotekun remains adequately funded by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, adding that the security agency enjoys strong support in terms of logistics, operational resources, and inter-agency collaboration to tackle security challenges in the state.

He maintained that since the establishment of Amotekun in 2020, the Ogun State Government has remained committed to ensuring the outfit’s effectiveness.

“Governor Abiodun has prioritized the safety and well-being of Ogun residents, equipping Amotekun with 10 brand-new Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles and deploying a comprehensive security approach through robust funding,” Adedigba said.

Contrary to reports that Amotekun received only ₦103 million, the commander revealed that the agency was allocated ₦731.7 million in 2024.

“Our budget has now been increased to ₦1.5 billion following approval from the Ogun State House of Assembly for 2025,” he stated.

He also dismissed claims that only ₦10 million was spent on Amotekun’s services, noting that the outfit’s monthly running costs exceed this amount.

Highlighting the state government’s investments, Adedigba said Amotekun recently moved into its newly constructed and fully furnished state headquarters, adding that Abiodun has continued to provide operational support, personnel training, and critical infrastructure upgrades.

“The old secretariat complex has been renovated, a borehole was drilled to address water challenges, and new training programmes have been introduced to enhance the skills of our operatives,” he said.

In 2024 alone, the government recruited and trained 750 additional personnel to bolster Amotekun’s strength. Just two months later, another batch of 500 personnel was approved, along with full uniform kits and salaries backed by the state government.

Furthermore, Adedigba disclosed that Governor Abiodun recently handed over additional operational vehicles and power bikes to Amotekun, bringing the agency’s fleet to over 45 serviceable vehicles and 70 motorcycles.

The commander urged the public to disregard misleading reports, stressing that Ogun Amotekun remains fully equipped and operational to safeguard lives and property.
