Martin Odegaard, a Norwegian international, has been named the new captain of Arsenal.

At the weekend, a statement from the Gunners was posted on their website.

Prior to the agreement being final, Odegaard transferred from Real Madrid to Arsenal in January 2021.

“We are pleased to announce that Martin Odegaard has been named our new men’s first-team captain,” according to a statement on arsenal.com.

“The 23-year-old has made a huge impact since arriving at Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid in January 2021, initially on loan, and has gone on to play 60 times, scoring nine goals.

“Odegaard has experience of wearing the armband, having been Norway captain since March 2021, whom he has won 43 caps for.

“We wish Martin every success as our captain.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool dealt the first blow of the new season to Manchester City as they claimed a 3-1 win to seal victory in the 2022 Community Shield.

Despite considerable VAR usage, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez scored two late goals to secure victory in the 2022–23 season opener.

In the East Midlands, Reds captain Jordan Henderson made his 450th overall appearance.

While Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino joined the Brazilian in attack, Darwin Nunez was listed as a substitute.

Due to Alisson Becker’s unavailability, Adrian started in goal, with Joel Matip partnering Virgil van Dijk in defense.
