CONTROVERSY has trailed the death of the Registrar of the National Examinations Council, Prof. Godswill Obioma, on Monday night.

Obioma was said to have died just after he returned to Minna, Niger State, from a trip to Abuja.

However, while his wife, Elizabeth Obioma was said to have claimed that her husband was strangled to death by unknown gunmen at their residence, there is another report to the contrary.

The Director, Human resources, NECO, Abdul Mustapha, confirmed the death of the NECO boss, saying he died in his sleep as a result of heart failure.

He based his statement on a notice from Obioma’s second son, Prince Godswill Obioma, informing the Council of his father’s death.

The notice read, “Mustapha K. Abdul (Director Human Resource Management, NECO),

“Dear Sir, this is to formally inform you that my father, Prof. Godswill Obioma, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO passed to eternal glory yesterday 31/5/2021 after a brief illness.

“We request that you kindly notify the Board, Management and the entire staff of the Council of this development. We shall keep you duly informed.

“Prince Godswill Obioma the 2nd, for the family.”
