The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has announced the readiness of his administration to approve lands that would be used as ranches for the rearing of cows and goats owned by indigenous Igbos alone.
Responding to questions while addressing journalists in Awka on the activities lined up for the Anambra at 25 events, Obiano said the state government has approved a time-frame of three years for any willing investor to come to the State and set up ranches for the rearing of cows and goats.
Obiano, responding to a question bordering on whether the state government would approve ranches for herdsmen in Anambra State, disclosed that his administration wanted the people to eat their native cows.
He stated that the government had been wooing people and encouraging them to come back home and invest, more so, as government has land bank to be given out for industries.
Governor Obiano added that the state government had a facility that encourages agriculture.
He said, “The people in charge would identify your land and give you support. We are trying to support everybody that we can. We are number one in terms of the progress, which explains why we have made and have the highest network of roads, and are also the safest state in Nigeria.”
Speaking on the prospect of Anambra becoming an oil producing state, Obiano stated that this has not been possible because the state has not been able to export oil. He, however, said that it was a thing of joy that Orient Petroleum Resources has got the approval to move into its oil wells again.
He expressed optimism that Anambra would soon become an oil producing state, saying that the state was already building a cargo airport at Umuleri because of the refinery that will be built by Orient Petroleum.
According to the governor, in the next five to six years, Anambra State will be producing oil and gas in large quantities. “We are an oil producing state-in-the-waiting; we are blessed with lots of oil and gas deposits.
He regretted the fact that Anambra had 972 active erosion sites that required huge resources to contend with.
The Governor said that the 25th anniversary offered his team the opportunity to renew their pact with the people of Anambra and strengthen their commitment to the emergence of a more prosperous state that was created in 1991.
