OBA of Benin, His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba Ewuare Ogidigan (11), has sacked the Presiding Priest of the Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Ohen-Osa Harrison Okao.
The Priest was said to have been sacked for alleged non-compliance with the ancient tradition of the land.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Secretary, Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor.
He said the decision to remove the Priest was jointly taken by the traditional head of the church, HRM Oba Ewuare the 2nd, joint elders committee and top palace chiefs, after Okao was found guilty of violating the long-standing rules of the church.
The statement said the Priest’s removal would restore sanity and lasting peace to the foremost Benin church.
The sacked priest was also ordered to hand over the church’s property in his possession.
Okao was however warned to stop any financial transaction within the cathedral.
