The Police in Osun State have arraigned a nursing mother, Temitope Oluwatoyin Adebisi before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, capital of the state over alleged land fraud.
The defendant, said to be a contractor, was arraigned before magistrate M. A. Olatunji on two count-charges bordering on fraudulent acts.
According to the prosecutor, Taiwo Adegoke, the defendant committed the offence in April, 2021 in Osogbo.
She was said to have fraudulently collected a sum of one million naira from one Sunday Jegede with the pretense of assisting him to purchase a plot of land, which she failed to do.
Adegoke informed the court that the offence allegedly committed by Adebisi is contrary to and punishable under sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge pressed against her.
The defence counsel,Taiwo Awokunle applied for her bail orally, asking the court to consider her four month old baby whom she brought to court.
However, Magistrate Olatunji, in her ruling, granted the defendant bail in the sum of five hundred thousand naira with two sureties in the same amount.
The matter was adjourned till January 16, 2023 for hearing.
