In a significant advancement in the fight against cancer, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, in collaboration with TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, SAPETRO, CNOOC, and PRIME 130, has inaugurated a cutting-edge mammography center at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
This center is the second of its type backed by the NNPC Foundation, following a previous facility at Garkida General Hospital in Adamawa, and forms part of NNPC’s goal to improve cancer detection and decrease mortality rates throughout Nigeria.
During the commissioning ceremony, Bala Wunti, Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services and represented by Sani Kabo, highlighted NNPC’s dedication to enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Nigeria.
Wunti said, “This establishment corresponds with the vision of our GCEO, Mr. Mele Kyari, to improve healthcare services in Nigeria.
“We consider it will act as an essential asset for prompt cancer detection and care under the state’s guidance.”
Serving as an essential facility for cancer detection in Nasarawa and the broader North Central area, the center features advanced technology such as the Senographe Pristina 3D mammography system and stereotactic biopsy instruments, allowing it to conduct more than 120 diagnostic tests each day.
Mrs. Tonye Osifo addressed the audience on behalf of Matthieu Bouyer, Country Chair of TotalEnergies, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to enhancing healthcare via important collaborations.
“Since 2016, TotalEnergies has finalized 84 projects, including this mammography center,” Bouyer stated.
The new establishment features a radiology office, treatment areas, and a cozy waiting space, fostering an inviting atmosphere for patients and healthcare staff.
NNPC Ltd. and its affiliates reaffirmed their dedication to implementing community-centered initiatives that enhance the quality of life for Nigerians, with intentions to expand healthcare facilities to tackle significant health issues.
