The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has stated that there is no difference in the crude oil production figures between it and the NUPRC.
Following media reports that raised doubts about the numbers, a clarification was issued regarding the significant disparity between the production data of NUPRC and the figures reported by NNPC.
NNPC clarified that the apparent discrepancy arises from the time periods included in each report.
NNPC reported a peak production of 1.8 million barrels per day in October 2024, while NUPRC’s average production for September 2024 was 1.54 million barrels per day.
NUPRC’s Chief Executive Officer, Gbenga Komolafe, provided additional confirmation during his speech at the 42nd Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists Annual International Conference & Exhibition in Lagos.
The Executive Commissioner for Development & Production, Enorense Amadasu, on behalf of Komolafe, stated “This production increased by 253,710 barrels per day to 1.8 million bpd in October, up from 1.54 million bpd in September 2024, showing a 16.56% month-on-month increase.”
Nigeria’s potential to boost output was further demonstrated by Komolafe, who noted that the country’s oil production of 1.8 mbpd exceeded the OPEC quota of 1.5 mbpd.
Any concerns over the observed disparities in output numbers are addressed by the statement from NNPC Ltd and NUPRC.
Both organizations have currently verified that the perceived discrepancy was caused by the variation in reporting periods—September for NUPRC and October for NNPC.
NNPC Ltd also reiterated its continuous work to improve the nation’s oil production capacity. The company announced that it is collaborating with important parties to raise production levels to 2 mbpd and above by the end of 2024.
This goal reflects NNPC’s commitment to meeting growing domestic and global oil demand while supporting the stability of the Nigerian oil sector.
NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, reaffirmed “The company’s dedication to working closely with relevant stakeholders to achieve this ambitious production target and maintain the growth trajectory for Nigeria’s oil output.”
