The Nigeria Labour Congress has called for an emergency National Executive Council meeting after meeting with the Federal Government to address the dispute arising from the removal of petrol subsidy.

In a statement signed by the NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, the virtual meeting was scheduled for Monday, 2 October, 2023, by 11 am.

This development is coming on the heels of a meeting with the Federal Government, which was chaired by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Rising from the meeting on Sunday night, the Federal Givernment had pushed the ball to the court of the organised labour to consider its offers and, if acceptable, suspend its proposed indefinite nationwide strike fixed for October 3, 2023.

“NLC and TUC will consider the offers by the Federal Government with a view to suspending the planned strike to allow for further consultations on the implementation of the resolutions above,” a part of the resolution contained in a press statement signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, read.
