Niger State Government says it requires about N25billion to comprehensively overhaul all water projects across the state.
The state Commissioner for Water Resources, Alh. Mamman Musa, stated this at a biweekly press briefing held recently in Minna, the state capital.
According to him, in order to enhance the performance of the water works in the state, over 50 motor pomps had been purchased.
The Commissioner said, “We need, at least, N25billion to replace all the water pipes because we are concerned about the safety of health for our people. We also need about N7billion to complete the Chanchaga Waterworks; we will not compromise the quality of water for our people.”
He explained that because the waterworks in Suleka, Minna, Bida and Kontagora had been performing below capacity, over 465 boreholes were sunk to augment.
According to him, for work to be fully completed at the Chanchaga Waterworks in Minna, about N7billion would be needed.
Musa hinged the inability to complete work on the whole state water works to the failure to release the SUKUK loan sourced by the state government.
Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dan Salau, assured the people of the state that the delapidated structures at the Waterworks would be overhauled before the end of 2019.
