The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for the Oyo State Command, Mr. Samuel Adegbuyi, assumed office on Monday at the command headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.
Adegbuyi, who takes over from Mr. Leye Oyebade, was the immediate past CP Marine, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos.
At a brief handover ceremony, the new CP said he would sustain all effective strategies adopted by his predecessor to fight crime and maintain peace in the state.
He enjoined officers to carry out their duties in the fear of God and eschew corruption.
“I am not here to intimidate anybody; my advice is to continue the good work of making Oyo State safer and peaceful.
“Your welfare will be my priority and I want to advice that we put aside our personal needs so that they don’t conflict with the call of duty to protect and serve the good people of this state,” he said.
The new police boss also promised to work in synergy with the management team in administering the command for effective security.
Earlier, the out-gone CP, Oyebade said that the major achievement of his short tenure was the successful management of the clashes between herdsmen and indigenous farmers in the state.
He said that the anti-corruption squad that was created within the short term of his tenure has successfully instilled discipline in men of the force.
Oyebade said that the command was also able to curb the incidence of kidnapping in the state through the repositioning of its anti-kidnapping squad.
He urged residents to extend same cooperation given to him to the new commissioner for him to succeed.
