The Nigerian Export Promotion Council in cooperation with the International Trade Centre has vowed to help women-led enterprises expand their market reach and seize global trade possibilities.
The Executive Director/CEO of NEPC, Mrs. Nonye Ayeni, said this at an event held at the NEPC office in Abuja.
She also thanked the ITC for its ongoing relationship, which has enabled several projects for Nigerian women exporters.
The event, organized in celebration of International Women’s Day 2025, focuses on business networking, market connections, and product exhibitions.
Ayeni highlighted the vital role women play in Nigeria’s economy, citing a PwC 2024 analysis which showed that 32 per cent of Nigerian SMEs are led by women.
She emphasized the importance for female business owners to adopt technology and globalization, as these factors are crucial for reaching global markets.
“Numerous platforms exist that offer women the chance to engage in cross-border trade. One key example is online commerce platforms, which are revolutionary and vital for fostering lasting economic advancement and progress,” she remarked.
“We are committed to aiding women who export by offering them the tools, insights, and chances necessary for success in the global marketplace. That is the reason for our presence here today and over the next couple of days,” Ayeni stated.
Ayeni commended the ITC’s dedication to promoting worldwide chances for women, highlighting that these partnerships establish a space for achievement that transcends location limits.
“I like to say that the best man for the job is a woman. Women are resilient, dogged, and determined. We are not just participants; we are major drivers of the future,” she said.
She encouraged all attendees to embrace the spirit of collaboration, emphasizing that empowering women in trade leads to national economic growth.
“By working together and embracing the spirit of collaboration, we can achieve remarkable success and ensure that Nigerian women-led businesses continue to shine on the global stage,” she told the audience.
The HerShowcase Event demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to increasing women’s engagement in the global economy while preparing the country’s non-oil exports for long-term prosperity.
