The chairman of the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, has commended the Federal Government for the remarkable steps the Presidency has taken to meet with key leaders and stakeholders in the Niger Delta, as part of efforts to bring about lasting peace to the troubled oil-rich region.
The acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, following the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently on vacation, recently toured major communities in the Niger Delta to directly interface with the people of the oil-producing states.
Speaking through his Special Assistant on Communications, Clara Braide, Ndoma-Egba noted that the Osinbajo’s ongoing tour of the Niger Delta further demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to the development of the region.
Ndoma-Egba, who had always maintained that the Buhari government meant well for the people of Niger Delta, said that the overall development of the region can be guaranteed by the entrenchment of peace.
While calling on the entire people of the Niger Delta to embrace the option of dialogue and consultation being championed by the Federal Government, the former Senate Leader opined that destruction of oil facilities and other government-owned assets in the Niger Delta would only further aggravate the monumental infrastructural and environmental challenges facing the region, rather than solving them for the good of the people.
Expressing the appreciation of the NDDC and all stakeholders in the zone for the presidential initiative, Ndoma-Egba noted that Osinbajo’s tour and the general commitment of the Buhari administration to Niger Delta development would serve as a push for the new NDDC board and management to be up and doing in the discharge of their duties.
He expressed optimism now is the time for change and solution to the myriad of problems confronting the Niger Delta, stressing the need for the Niger Delta people to give the Buhari administration all the necessary support it needs to encourage it to continue in its determination to transform the region.
