Publisher of the National Mirror newspaper, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, on Thursday joined the governorship race for Ondo State.
Ibrahim, obtained the Peoples Democratic Party nomination form from the camp of factional leader of the PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, promising to defray the salaries owed workers in Ondo State within 100 days, if elected.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after obtaining the form, Ibrahim criticized the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee, insisting that Modu-Sheriff remained the legally recognized national chairman of the PDP.
He argued that Makarfi had no right in law to claim the chairmanship of the party, saying, “Sheriff derived his power as the party Chairman when he took over from Adamu Muazu, who resigned as national chairman before the expiration of his tenure.”
Ibrahim, however, berated the administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko for owing workers’ salary.
According to him, within the period Governor Mimiko ruled the state, he had so far collected over N100 billion from the Federation Account but has allegedly succeeded in expending N44 billion.
He wondered what the governor had expended the rest of the state’s allocation on.
