The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions have reject the sharing formula of earned allowances, giving rise to tension in the nation’s universities.
The two labour unions reportedly disagreed over the sharing formula of the N22.127 billion approved by the Federal Government for the payment of earned allowances to university staff.
Of the approved amount, it was gathered that ASUU, is to take a lion share of 75 per cent, while the other three unions would share the remaining 25 per cent.
The three other unions are the Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, and the National Association of Academic Technologists.
It will be recall that the last N40 billion Earned Allowances released by the Federal Government for the four universities-based unions, where ASUU was also allocated 75 per cent of the total sum, generated crisis in the university system.
It was learnt that NASU and SSANU rejected the sharing formula, asking the Federal Government to reverse it in order to avert industrial dispute in the university system.
The two unions, under the umbrella of Joint Action Committee, gave the government two weeks to redress what they called the injustice meted out to them.
It was learnt that JAC had written the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, to intervene in the looming crisis.
