‘My pastor, not my husband, is the father of my child’

As the saying goes, only a woman can say who is responsible for her pregnancy. This assertion was strengthened once more at a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Lagos when a housewife, Morenikeji Adegoke, declared that her husband, Michael Adegoke, was not the father of her four-year-old son.

Instead, she said, her pastor was the biological father of the boy.

Morenikeji said she had gone to a ‘spiritual church’ to collect ‘spiritual water’ that would make her become pregnant, adding that, when she got to the church, the Pastor-incharge had sexual intercourse with her, the result of which was her pregnancy.

“I have been telling my husband that he is not the rightful owner of my pregnancy, but he neither listened nor reasoned with me,” she said, wondering wondering how her husband could “be claiming another man’s belonging.”

In his response, Michael, the estranged husband, said his wife started causing problems shortly after she packed into his house, noting that his wife was a flirt and that this would not even allow him claim the paternity of the four-year-old child.

The marriage was consequently dissolved after series of adjournments.
