… says rumour is price for being famous

Married to Chris Attoh, Damilola Adegbite is one woman who tries as much as possible to keep her marriage from the prying eyes of the public. But recently, it was reported that her two-year-old union had hit the rocks.

When Adegbite addressed the issue on social media, it didn’t stop the rumour, as people thought she was only trying to cover up just like other celebrities did in the recent past.

In an encounter with her, she told our correspondent that such a rumour was part of the price a celebrity must pay for being famous.

According to her, everyone believes they have an opinion about your personal life and so could just say whatever they like about you, at any time.

“I am glad that you are asking, at least trying to clear the air. I don’t know where that came from or how it started, but we do not pay attention to things like that. We are used to it, we’ve been in this industry for years. You control whatever you want to hear or read. My marriage is fine. People react to things differently, but I found it funny when I heard the news. You need to understand that the less you look, the less you see,” she said.

Regardless of the public scrutiny she’s subjected to, she insisted that she enjoyed every part of acting and did not regret her decision to venture into it.

“I have always wanted to be in the limelight since I was a child. I love what I do, I love the attention. I love using my gift and I think everyone should enjoy their gifts. When I was a kid, I would just dress up and start dancing or acting in my room. I have always wanted to be an entertainer,” she said.

Blessed with a male child, Brain Attoh, she described the feeling about motherhood as incredible, saying that she was so excited the first time she held her own baby.

“Every child is definitely a gift from God. Every time I look at him, I wonder how I made him. It is a joy every woman should experience, at least, once, because it changes your perception about life. Unfortunately, you may not understand this feeling since you are a man.

“I actually wanted a boy first, but my husband was indifferent. For the first few scans, they couldn’t really tell the sex and I thought it was a girl. I said to myself that as long as the child was healthy, safe and sound, it really did not matter,” she said.

Having to combine her role as a wife, mother and actress has not come easy and she admitted that, too. According to her, she could get confused at times, but she’s learning every day.

“The only constant thing in life is change and you have to learn to change with time. At a time, it was just me, selfishly living my life, but now I have a child and husband. It is nice, it is companionship because you go home to your family, unlike those days that it was only you,” she said.

One thing Adegbite watches constantly is her shape. She maintained that keeping good shape, especially after having a baby, must be a conscious decision.

“Some people are blessed and they don’t have to struggle while some of us have to watch what we eat, do exercise as much as we can, even though our schedules are busy and life changes. But you have to make conscious effort to look a certain way. For me, I always like to look good so I watch what I eat and do exercise when I can,” she said.
