- She’s a liar, she’s just too troublesome – Inspector Nwome
There is no doubt that things have totally fallen apart between Mrs. Uzoh Eze and her husband, Tobias Eze, an officer in the Nigeria Police Force, who now allegedly goes by a new name: Inspector Eric Nwome.
The couple had lived happily together until Uzoh discovered that her husband of many years had been raising another family, a wife and four children, in another part of Lagos. And since then, the centre could no longer hold for the once happy couple.
And now the domestic squabbles that followed Uzoh’s shocking discovery of her husband’s secret extra-marital escapades, have degenerated into the opening of a can of worms about the police officer’s borrowed identity, with the resultant exchange of accusations and counter-accusations between the couple.
The aggrieved housewife is now alleging that her husband, who allegedly used another man’s certificate to join the police, has been threatening to kill because of the debt of N800,000 he’s owing her and her audacity to spill the beans about his real
identity.
He collected Eric Nwome’s certificate, which he used to join the police force. The owner of the certificate attended a secondary school in Uwelle, Ukehe, in Enugu State. He did not even pay the man whose certificate he used to start life. The young man, Nwome, came to our apartment one day and was complaining bitterly about lack of cash. My husband asked me to lend N10, 000 to him, and that he would return it to me, but he never did
Uzoh told our correspondent that her husband used the academic certificate belonging to one Eric Nwome to join the police as a constable and had since been bearing the “fake name,” disclosing that the police inspector’s real name is Tobias Eze.
She, however, alleged that her husband had threatened to kill her if she revealed the secret that he used someone else’s certificate and name to join the force.
Uzoh further alleged that her late elder brother’s Mercedes Benz 190, which she kept with her husband, had since developed wings, and all efforts made to recover the car from him had proved abortive.
The aggrieved woman also alleged that her husband abandoned her for another woman, who had delivered about four children for him.
She claimed that the police officer borrowed the sum of N800, 000.00 from her, adding that she took the money from the contributions given to her by her clients on whose behalf she was operating a daily local contributory scheme.
Uzoh further claimed that her estranged husband took the N800,000 from her in bits, but refused to refund the money.
According to her, “The real name of my husband is Tobias Eze. We came to live at Area ‘B’ Police Barracks, Apapa, Lagos, in 2002. He left this barracks in 2011. I never knew that he had married another wife. I was into local banking we call daily contribution. My husband married another wife without informing me. She has about four kids now. I don’t have any kid. I’m in my early fifties. Because of my husband, I ‘m owing huge debt. I was arrested and detained on December 10, 2009 by policemen attached to Apapa Police Station. I slept in the cell till the next day.
“The total amount of money my husband is owing me is over N800, 000, 00. He was collecting the money bit by bit. My husband, Eze, worked at Sabo Police Station. From there, he was attached to MOPOL 2 (Police Mobile Force 2), Keffi, Lagos State. He was later de-mobbed and he is now attached to the Elere Police Station. One of the things that caused our problem was because of my childlessness. He abandoned me for another woman. He used and dumped me. He took my late elder brother’s car, which was given to me, and abandoned me in heavy debt.
“My husband also threatened to kill me if I revealed the secret of his using another person’s certificate to join the police. The name of my elder brother is Noel Ekwubiri. He is dead now. He had a Mercedes Benz car, which was given to me by our family. The number of the vehicle is DG 914 LND. Up till date, I did not know where he parked the car. He only told me that the car developed fault. He abandoned me since 2011. He would tell me that he was on duty on a daily basis, but unknown to me, he had married another wife and living happily with his wife and children at
Ejigbo.”
Continuing, the woman, who hails from Omoku, Rivers State, said, “When the trouble became so much, I was asked to leave our apartment at the Area ‘B’ Barracks. People were interested in occupying the apartments. The Police provost had to give me a quit notice because I’m not a police woman. Both of us went to see the provost. This shop belongs to another person. This is where I sleep now.
“Eze is from Nsukka, Enugu State. He is very aggressive and troublesome. He is dubious. All the money he collected from me, he said he was working and that he would pay me some day. But he never fulfilled his promise. I was the person that would use my money to repair every faulty item in the house, including the generator. He collected Eric Nwome’s certificate, which he used to join the police force. The owner of the certificate attended a secondary school in Uwelle, Ukehe, in Enugu State. He did not even pay the man whose certificate he used to start life. The young man, Nwome came to our apartment one day and was complaining bitterly about lack of cash. My husband asked me to lend N10, 000.00 to him and that he would give me back, but he never did. That’s the kind of man I had as a husband.”
“My major annoyance is that he had threatened to kill me if I revealed some of his secret, especially the certificate issue. He must return my late brothers car to me and also pay me the over N800, 000.00 he is owing me. When he came home one day with his new wife and a baby girl to announce that the woman had delivered a baby girl for him, we quarreled and he used a comb to inflict injury on me. Blood was gushing out of my body.”
When called on the phone on the allegations leveled against him by his wife, the police officer told our correspondent that he had called the wrong number.
But the next day, he called back and said the number was his, saying, “I did not use anybody’s certificate to join the police. She was telling you lies. She is a liar. I am using my name. I am not owing her. I left everything that belongs to her with her. She is very troublesome. She even came to my residence at Ejigbo to attack my wife. She locked her inside a room. If not for the residents around, who were banging on the door, she would have killed her inside my apartment. I’m not owing her anything. I don’t want to talk about this because I’m bereaved. My brother’s corpse is still in the mortuary. Let me bury him first. Thank you.”
