house wife, Taiwo Solanke, has dragged her husband, Matanmi Solanke, before an Ake Customary court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, over alleged frequent fighting.

Taiwo, who prayed the court to dissolve her four-year-union with her estranged husband, said that Matanmi always beat her at the slightest provocation.

The mother of one told the court the she left her husband one year ago due to her husband’s lack of care, threat to her life and constant fighting.

She also prayed the court to set aside their four-year-old marriage and order her husband to be responsible for their only child’s school fees and upkeep.

Taiwo said that she had reported her husband to their two families on several occasions and efforts by them to settle the dispute proved abortive.

She said, “My husband always threatens my life and beat me up whenever he is angry. He does not take care of me. I want this court to set aside the four-year-old marriage between us.

“I have left his house one year ago. I want divorce because I am no more interested in the marriage. I have reported him to my family and his own family, too, but they could not settle the fight between us.”

In his defence, Solanke said that his wife was stubborn and promiscuous. He said his wife had once told him that he knew her to be promiscuous before he got married to her.

The estranged husband said that he used to give his wife N500 feeding allowance everyday, but despite his effort, his wife was not satisfied and started having affairs with other men.

“I had once accused her of being promiscuous and she said I knew she was promiscuous before I married her. I always give her N500 for feeding allowance everyday and yet she is not satisfied and still see other men” he said.

Ruling on the matter, the President of the court Chief Akande.O.O , advised the couple to go and settle their differences amicably between themselves.

He, therefore, adjourned the case to June 25.
