A 35-year-old married woman has been arrested by the Police for allegedly abducting and trafficking underage girls.
The woman, Comfort Innocent, who was arrested on December 22, confessed that she was into the trade of trafficking teenagers in collaboration with her husband, who is based in Italy.
She was said to have disclosed that her husband usually received the girls and that they had been in the trade for a long time.
According to the suspect, the teenagers are usually trafficked for prostitution, from Nigeria to Italy, through Libya.
The suspect was arrested following a report by Oluwaseun Aduratola and Sakirat Fasasi, residents of Siun town in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
They were said to have informed detectives at Owode Egba Police Station that the suspect abducted their daughters – Blessing Aduratola, 15; and Hasisat Fasasi, 16 – with a view to taking them to Italy for prostitution.
The Divisional Police Officer for Owode Egba Division, Mathew Ediae, was said to have led a team of detectives to arrest the suspect.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect admitted during interrogation that she was a human trafficker, who had been in the business for long.
He quoted her as saying that her husband usually received the girls in Italy, while she recruited the girls in Nigeria.
The two girls in the latest trafficking episode had been taken to Kaduna State after their abduction.
They were to be taken to Libya from there, but were rescued by the Police in Kaduna.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Edward Ajogun, has however directed that the suspect be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
