A father of six, Abubakar Finder, has been dragged before a Sharia Court at Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, by his ex-wife, Amina, for abandoning them since their separation.
The complainant told the court that in the four years since their separation, Finder had failed to cater for the needs of his six children, including their
feeding.
“We have two boys and four girls before he divorced me. The two boys are working and can feed themselves, while the four girls depend on me. It is so bad that my children couldn’t take anything for Suhur today to start the fasting,” Amina told the court.
The defendant, however, denied the allegations, accusing the woman of being “ungrateful”.
According to him, even though he has no job, he usually seeks loan from friends and relatives to send food items to his ex-wife for the feeding of the children, and sometimes even gives them money.
After listening to both parties, the Judge, Malam Dahiru Lawal, ordered the defendant to take proper care of his children to prevent them from going wayward.
The judge directed the woman and her ex-husband to agree as to how much the defendant would be sending monthly as upkeep allowance for the children.
Lawal also cautioned the estranged couple to avoid anything that would embarrass their children and expose them to
ridicule.
