There was a mild drama in the Nasarawa State Government House, Lafia recently when a former Sole Administrator of the defunct Nigerian Newsday Newspaper, a publication of the Nasarawa Publishing Company (NPC) Rabiu Abdullah, burst into tears.
Abdullahi became emotional in apparent appreciation of the state government’s decision to redeploy the former staff of the media outfit.
The affected workers had experienced tough times when the media outfit was rested as a result of economic challenges.
He prayed for the success of the outgoing governor of the state, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, who was elected as a senator at the red Chambers after concluding his tenure as the chief executive officer of the state.
The Nasarawa State governor disclosed his administration’s resolve to redeploy the staff of former Nasarawa Publishing Company (NPC) at a meeting with top government officials and staff of the defunct media outfit in the Government House, Lafia.
He said the state’s Head of Service (HOS) and the Civil Service Commission would ensure the smooth implementation of the excise within the next two weeks.
“I have directed the state’s Head of Service and the Civil Service Commission to expedite action at ensuring that all the staff of the former state publishing company are placed according to their qualifications and posted to their new duty posts within the next two
weeks.
“Initially, we wanted to liquidate the media outfit but after carefully observing the contributions you offered to the society, we changed our minds to retain you and today, we are absorbing you into the mainstream of the civil service,” the governor
said.
