Taking a cue from the visit of Igbo leaders to President Muhammadu Buhari in an effort to secure the release of the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, a traditional ruler in Osun State, the Oluwo of Iwoland, Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has enjoined Yoruba monarchs, elders and stakeholders to take a walk to President Muhammadu Buhari to seek the release of the detained Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo (also known as Igboho).

Oba Akanbi said the release of Igboho would go a long way in strengthening the unity of Nigeria.

The Oluwo appealed to Yoruba monarchs to harmonise their interest towards the release of the detained agitator.

He argued that oneness of Nigeria could be further cemented by the release of Igboho and Nmamdi Kanu.

Oba Akanbi enjoined Buhari to honour Yoruba kings and stakeholders, saying such a respect will convince Yorubas home and abroad of the need to respect the unity of Nigeria.

Oluwo urged the federal government to effectively relate with Benin Republic on bilateral ground and ensure Igboho is safely returned to Nigeria without further trial. He said such action would encourage more patriots from Yoruba land.

A statement by the monarch, through his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, reads, “The controversies surrounding the continuous detention of Sunday Igboho can be addressed should the Yoruba monarchs, elders and stakeholders show readiness to take a walk to President Muhammadu Buhari. Sunday Igboho is our son; he has made some mistakes which are on the agitation for Yoruba nation. The approach is jeopardising the intention. I urge stakeholders in Yoruba affairs to harmonise their interest, come together and approach the country’s leaders for the release of Igboho.

“Granting such request will entrench the unity of Nigeria and foster a harmonious understanding. Only federal government has the exclusive charisma to liberate the face of Yoruba nation agitator at this critical time. Our son must be rescued. Releasing Igboho without recourse to litigation will earn the government credit.

It is a credit of maturity and unity.”

Oba Akanbi also called on Nigerians to continuously exhibit love, maturity and loyalty capable of sustaining the unity of Nigeria.
