For comedian, Onyebuchi Ojieh, popularly known as Buchi, the year may have started on a very good note as he tied the knots with his wife last Thursday. And while still revelling in the joy of the occasion, commentators in the industry have been expressing concerns as to how his new status would affect his fan base.

However, in a reaction to the concerns, Buchi has said that being married can never affect his fan base, saying that fans should be interested in his art alone.

Buchi said, “Alibaba, Julius Agwu, Tuface are married but they still have fans.

Fans that leave because of your marital status are not real and I believe God drives them away for the better. I am not the type who likes to have issues with my family because of fans.”

Looking ahead into what the year holds, Buchi expressed the hope that being married would bring better fortune in terms of more brand stability and in terms of events. He also spoke about his personal expansion plans.

“I am looking at May this year to launch out my one-man show. I plan to do more television programmes too.

If you look at Hollywood, the comedians make it big in movie as well. The likes of Kevin Hart, Jamie Foxx, and Eddie Murphy are good examples.

Big screen is the biggest at the end of the day.” Since comedians are multitalented, he maintained that it was easy for them to act or sing.

“I am already part of a television series, which comes out in February. I am now interested in other movie roles. But If I am doing a movie, it has to be related to my personality as a comedian,” he said.

Despite studying law in the university, Buchi admitted that it would have been difficult to make a big mark in the profession like he had done in comedy.

“I would have been practicing law if comedy did not work. But I do not think I would have been a better lawyer than a comedian, because law is work while comedy is talent.

Also, there is a grace that comes with talent that does not come with work,” he added.
