A 55-year-old man, Emmanuel Asala, has asked a Customary Court in Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, to dissolve his marriage to his wife, Busayo Asala, over her failure to move into his house with her own stock of kitchen and cooking utensils.
“How will a woman get married without a grinding stone, tablespoons, mortar, pestle, deep freezer and even serving plates? She did not bring any of these to my house. I don’t think I can continue with the marriage,” Asala had told the court.
The angry husband argued that the best way to enjoy a good relationship with a woman was her ability and capability to prepare nice dishes for the husband.
“How can you get nice foods to eat, since she does not have the required tools to prepare them? It is because of this that I want this honourable court to dissolve our marriage,” he added.
Asala also prayed the court to order Busayo to return all the kitchen and cooking items he listed because he bought the ones she had for her.
Busayo was not in court to defend herself and the matter was consequently adjourned to create room for possible reconciliation.
