Man kills own 85-year-old mother, two kids in Anambra

A man, Emeka Ezimadu, has allegedly killed his 85-year-old mother, Mrs. Agnes Ezimadu, and two of his children – Ifechukwu and Nmeso – in Nnewi, Anambra State.

The suspect, 47, was said to have also injured three of his children, said to be receiving treatment at Akwudo hospital, located in the area.

In a situation that can only be described as strange, the man was said to have killed the victims with cutlass while they were asleep.

Police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect had been arrested, while the corpses of the vicitims had been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

The three other injured children are still receiving treatment, according to him.

He said, in a statement, that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for investigation.

Mohammed said, “On Thursday, at about 11:55pm, Police operatives attached to Nnewi Division arrested one Emeka Ezimadu,47, of Okpuneze Uruagu in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

“Suspect allegedly ran amok in a circumstance yet to be ascertained; attacked and killed two of his biological children namely Ifechukwu Ezimadu, 9; Mmeso Ezimadu, two years; and his own mother, one Agnes Ezimadu, 85 years; of same address allegedly with a cutlass while they were sleeping.”

He added, “Suspect equally used same offensive weapon and injured his three other children namely: Nonso Ezimadu, 12; Chinaemerem Ezimadu,1; and Ngozi Ezimadu 8 years old; of same address.

“Police detectives visited the scene and rushed victims to the Akwudo hospital for medical attention where the two children and the aged mother were certified dead by a medical doctor, while the three other children are receiving treatment.

“Corpses had been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy and case transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for discreet investigation.”
