A Kano Shariah Court has awarded 10 strokes of cane to a resident of the city called Crazy Baballe for getting drunk after consuming alcohol.
The police arraigned Baballe for drunkenness and theft of a frying pan recently.
Police prosecution said the accused person was arrested in possession of a frying pan and when quizzed, he could not give satisfactory answer on the ownership of the item.
Baballe told the court that the offences filed against him were true, saying, “I consumed some alcohol but I did not steal the frying pan. I found it by the roadside and I decided to pick it up and go round the city of Kano in search of the owner.”
The presiding Khadi, Ustaz Munzali Tanko, found the defendant guilty as charged and convicted him.
However, Baballe pleaded with the court for leniency.
Delivering judgment on the matter, Tanko sentenced the defendant to 10 strokes of cane without an option of a fine.
The sentence was instantly executed by court officials.
