A 46-year-old man, Suleiman Adetoro, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly destroying the foundation of a building.
Adetoro was also charged for threatening the life of a man and his family members over disagreement on land.
Police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Abiodun Fagboyinbo, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences alongside others now at large on January 26, 2021 at Olodo compound, Ita-Olokan, Osogbo.
Fagboyinbo accused Adetoro of willfully and unlawfully damaging the foundation of a building, value of which had yet to be known.
He added that the damaged property belonged to the Olodo family, represented by Lawal Ismaila Raji.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant threatened Raji and his family members with cutlasses.
The accused person was said to have committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 451 and 86 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the three-count-charge slammed against him.
His counsel, T. B. Ayodele, urged the court to grant Adetoro bail on provision of reliable sureties.
The prosecutor, however, objected to the bail application on the ground that the defendant had in October 2021, abused police administrative bail, and contended that he would jump court bail.
Ayodele urged the court to discountenance the argument by the police prosecutor against his bail application.
Overruling the objections by the prosecution, Chief Magistrate A. A. Adebayo granted the accused person bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety.
The surety, the magistrate said, must be resident within the court district and his or her address should be verified by court officials and the prosecutor.
The matter was adjourned till February 3 for hearing.
