A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Gidan Muritala, Kano State, has sentenced one Zharahdeen Muhammad, 28-year-old resident of Kano, to five years in jail for engaging in sodomy.
The prosecutor, Lamido Soron Dinki, told the court that the convict had lured his victim, a nine-year-old boy, to a private room where he had anal sex with him.
He informed the court that the parents of the victim reported the matter to the police shortly after the incident.
The evidences tendered by Dinki were admitted by the court, noting that Muhammad was a first time offender.
Muhammad, who pleaded for leniency, told the court that he had no cause to prove the basis why he should not be punished.
The presiding judge, Hauwa Minjbir, ruled that the prosecution had proved his case beyond reasonable doubt.
He, therefore, sentenced Mohammad to a three-year jail term with an option of N100,000 fine for the offence.
He was ordered to pay N50,000 compensation to the victim failing which he would serve additional two years in jail.
