A middle aged man, Folorunsho Omoniyi, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly stealing 500 bags of cement belonging to two traders.
The police, which dragged the accused person to court, claimed that the accused was a customer to the complainants before he allegedly carted away their wares.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that Omoniyi committed the offence some time in 2014 at the Oke-Fia area in Osogbo.
Fagboyinbo added that Omoniyi stole 500 bags of cement worth one  million and seventy five thousand naira, saying that the stolen wares belonged to two traders- Messrs Hammed Salami and Kayode Falore.
Fagboyinbo noted that the accused person had obtained 500 bags of cement on credit, saying that Omoniyi promised to pay the traders within a week, but he failed.
The prosecutor argued that the offences committed by the accused person contravened Sections 419 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
But Omoniyi pleaded not guilty to the two count-charge bearing on theft that were slammed on him.
Omoniyi’s counsel, Najite Okobe, made bail application asking the court to make the conditions liberal.
Magistrate Ashiru Ayeni granted Omoniyi bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties.
The matter was adjourned till October 17, 2017 for mention.
