ONE Nnamadi Emdriuokhe has landed in Police net over the defilement of a five-year-old girl in Festac, Lagos State.
Nnamdi, who had suffered beatings in the hands of an angry mob before he was rescued by some soldiers, was caught using his finger to defile the minor whose mother had sold food for him earlier.
A child right activist, Olagunju Oladele, who reported the matter at Festac Police Division, said the poor mother of the minor had resorted to accepting financial compensation from the suspect at the expense of her daughter’s abuse before his intervention.
He said, “A full-grown man took advantage of a child. She was bleeding when the mother took her to the clinic. People around started beating the man until the Army in charge of the area took him into custody.
“They asked the parents to call the Police but as usual, someone at the station asked for money to register the case. The parents didn’t know what to do and were too broke to handle the case. So they opted out for compensation from the culprit. I got there and stopped it.”
He said he was determined to see the man face justice, and with the help of some friendly police officers, the suspect was picked up.
“This approach came with tips and recharge cards. I am presently at the Police Station at Festac Town Area Command with the parents and the child to get justice,” Oladele said.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, has confirmed the development.
He said the suspect had confessed to the crime, adding that investigation was ongoing on the matter.
“The victim’s mother reported that one Nnamadi Emdriuokhe came to the front of her house, where she sells food, and after eating, he started putting his finger inside the private part of her five-year-old daughter,” the PPRO said.
“The suspect has been detained after confessing to the crime and the victim was taken to the Amuwo Odofin General Hospital for medical examination. The case is under investigation. The Commissioner of Police condemned the act and vowed to always go after criminals, who engaged in this inhumane act,” he added.
