Man, 20, steals N90, 000.00 church offering, tithe

The police in Lagos have dragged a 20- year-old man, Udeh Emmanuel, before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N90, 000.00 offering and tithe money belonging to the Arch-Angel Catholic Church, Abule Ado, Satelite Town, Lagos State.

The accused person was said to have stolen the money and escaped, but was later apprehended by policemen attached to the Satellite Town Police Station.

In a two-count charge preferred against the accused person, the prosecutor, Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that Emmanuel, “did steal the tithe and offering money (cash) N90, 000,00 , property of Arch Angel Catholic Church Abule Ado, Satellite Town, Lagos, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”

The prosecutor also said that Emmanuel “did willfully and unlawfully damage the tithe and offering box valued N100, 000.00, property of Arch Angel Catholic Church, Abule Ado, Lagos and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section  350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”

The accused person pleaded guilty to the two-count charge.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Joy Ugbomoiko, then remanded the accused in prison custody.
