The Kano State Police Command has arraigned a middle-aged man, Ahmed Bachirawa, before a Kano Chief Magistrate’s court for allegedly parading himself as a blood relative of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
The charge against Bachirawa read that he was arrested and prosecuted for parading himself as a close blood relative of the AGF, also claiming that he had unfettered access to the presidency.
The defendant was alleged to have defrauded his victims, who are residents of Kano to the tune of N10 million, under the pretext that he would use his access and influence to the minister and the presidency to facilitate lucrative employment for them with government agencies and ministries.
It was gathered that those who were defrauded by the defendant later discovered that he is a fraud. He was arrested after complaints were made on his criminal activities to the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 1 Kano.
The prosecution witness told the court that the police preliminary investigation into the activities of the suspect showed that many people had fallen victim to his criminal antics.
The suspect, however, denied the allegations leveled against him in court. His counsel, B B. Utteh, applied that his client should be released on bail.
The court refused his application for bail in consideration of the weight of the charges brought against him.
