Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2019 presidential aspirant, Ahmed Makarfi has warned other aspirants on the platform of the party against making the clamour for restructuring of the country a campaign issue.
Makarfi gave the warning while chatting with newsmen after meeting with members of the party in Abia State in Umuahia the capital on his ambition, saying the issue was already in the party’s manifesto.
While welcoming the idea to move the country forward, he posited that it should be extended to every government institutions and agencies to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
The one-time Kaduna State governor said;“We should have institutional restructuring. The armed forces, security agencies and other institutions must be restructured so that they do not take directive from one man only.”
On the security challenges in the country, Makarfi, who chaired the party’s defunct caretaker committee, noted that the challenges were surmountable by adequate equiping of the security agencies.
The aspirant, who described himself as a detribalised Nigerian with affiliation across ethnic, tribal and religious boundaries, stressed that their ambitions should not be seen as a “do-or-die affair.”
“I know that there are some that would want Nigeria to burn if they do not win,” he said, adding that he was not desperate and would not lose sleep should he fail to secure the ticket.
At the meeting, the state Chairman of the party, Johnson Onuigbo noted with excitement how Makarfi was able to rescue the party from eminent disintegration.
“You are a man of integrity, sound knowledge, intellect and firm character. You are also a detribalised Nigerian. My closeness to you also shows that you are not a religious bigot,” he told him.
