… slept in police cell as interrogation continues today
These are trying times for the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, who was detained in police cell last night after being grilled till late by a Presidential panel reviewing the anti-graft agency’s activities.
The panel is headed by a former President of the Appeal Court, Justice Isa Salami.
Despite the denial by the Department of State Services, on Monday, that Magu was not arrested, our correspondent gathered that his convoy was stopped by DSS operatives, who changed his direction to the Villa on superior order, just after he left his Wuse 2 office.
After yesterday’s session, Magu was reportedly detained at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
Journalists had not been allowed to go near the Conference Centre of the Presidential Villa, where he was being interrogated yesterday.
The journalists who wanted to cover the proceedings at about 3.20pm were politely barred by security operatives.
The Point had reported that the undercurrent war between the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, might have been escalated for urgent attention by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The National Assembly had refused to confirm him as substantive Chairman for EFCC, and this latest crisis might lead to the end of his era, sources said.
Reliable sources in the Presidency have said that Magu may not return to office as the EFCC boss, as names were already being considered for his replacement.
The AGF had, a few days ago, accused him of gross infractions in his line of duty.
