Kizu Stanford says he lost his job with Lloyds Banking Group in Great Bridge after he got into a physical confrontation on a bus in West Bromwich on October 1 last year
The banker confronted a man who allegedly kicked a teenage girl in the face.
Kizu Stanford claims he was let go by Lloyds Bank after a video of the bus confrontation went viral online.
The 26-year-old was sitting on the bus in West Bromwich on October 1 last year when a couple allegedly began slinging verbal abuse towards a maskless-mum, he claims.
A teen girl stuck up for the woman, who was with her young daughter, only to be subject to racist abuse, Mr Stanford said.
In footage that went viral online, a man then allegedly kicks the teen in the face as he attempted to get off the bus.
She can be heard screaming “oh my god” as she stands up to confront her alleged attacker.
At that point, Mr Stanford gets up and wrestles a man to the floor.
Mr Stanford can be heard shouting: “What the f *** are you doing.
“You piece of s*** I will murder you.”
At one point he appears to stamp on the man.
The former bank clerk from Wednesbury, who was wearing the company’s uniform at the time, then puts a man in a headlock and throws him off the bus.
After Mr Stanford told a colleague about the incident, which quickly went viral online, he claims he was suspended without investigation at the bank’s Great Bridge branch.
One week before his birthday on November 29 he was dismissed on the grounds of gross misconduct.
“You become a folklore online but a villain by the company,” he said.
“As soon as I saw the man kick the young girl I knew I had to act, but I didn’t for one second think that my actions would lead to me losing my job.”
He added: “I don’t regret it at all, but I do regret the fact that Lloyds Bank has chosen to sack me.”
BTU, a union for Lloyds staff, has launched an appeal to reinstate Mr Stanford’s job.
A union spokesman claimed: “No reasonable employer would have dismissed him.
“It is important to note that the police scrutinised Kizu Stanford’s actions in detail and took no action against him whatsoever.”
The spokesman said Mr Stanford’s employment prospects “have been severely damaged” as a result of being dismissed.
