A former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Lagos State, Mr. Ademurin Kuye, has said that the major problem facing Nigeria as a nation lay with the federal lawmakers.
Kuye, while speaking with The Point, noted that the level of corruption going on within the
National Assembly and the cost of running the federal legislature was an indication that the lawmakers did not have the love of Nigeria at heart.
“The National Assembly has not denied that there is corruption in the legislature, but the running cost of the National Assembly at the individual level is higher, and even far above what the President of United State of America and the US lawmaker take home,” he said.
Kuye also stressed the need to make the country’s legislature operate on a part time basis, saying this would compel the lawmakers to present bills that would be more relevant to the problems in the society.
