Exactly four days after the lawmaker representing Boripe/Ifelodun/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency of Osun State, Olusoji Adetunji was allegedly attacked by members of his constituency over alleged poor performance, the legislator has rolled out N150 million worth of empowerment projects for his constituents.

In a viral video obtained by The Point, Adetunji was stoned in Ada town, Boripe Local Government Area of the state penultimate weekend by some angry members of the town who were said to have voted for him.

It was gathered that Adetunji was at a wedding ceremony of a daughter of one of the political leaders in the area, where he was allegedly spending lavishly.

Enraged by his alleged extravagant spending at the party, some youths were said to have mobilized themselves and attacked the lawmaker while accusing him of neglecting them since he was sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives over a year ago.

The video showed a convoy suspected to belong to the lawmaker being attacked with stones and sticks. It was learned that the lawmaker was whisked away from the scene by his security details.

The youths also appeared to be beating up others believed to be followers of the lawmaker.

One of his aides was reportedly injured during the mayhem.

Responding to the viral video, Adetunji denied claims that he was attacked, saying his convoy ran into a clash by some youths.

Adetunji’s media assistant, Nurudeen Abolaji explained, “It is unfortunate that some people are attaching the incident of the attack on Soji Adetunji. He was coming from Ibadan that Saturday to attend the wedding ceremony of the son of one of the party members in Ada.

“It was the guys from Ikirun, Aagba and Ada that clashed at the event. They were already having an altercation before the arrival of Adetunji. It was so unfortunate that the matter escalated to a serious level when he arrived in the area.

“Nothing affected, the matter did not concern him at all or the PDP, it was just a fight between the boys of Ifelodun, Ikirun, Iragbiji, Boripe and Aagba. None of the vehicles of the lawmakers was affected in any way. All the vehicles in his convoy are in good condition. It might be the vehicles that are already at the event centre that were damaged.”

Four days after the incident, exactly on recently celebrated Democracy Day, Adetunji rolled out empowerment projects worth N150 million as he distributed items such as sewing machines, motorcycles among others.

Other items distributed to the constituents included grinding machines, POS terminals, various farm equipment, fans, freezers, refrigerators, generators including table and chairs for POS operation. Millions of naira was also distributed as cash grants to widows, widowers, and the aged to put smiles on the faces of the constituents.

Adetunji said the gesture was to alleviate the untold hardship in his constituency and the country at large by improving the quality of life of individuals, increasing economic opportunities, and fostering independence among his people.

Stating his accomplishments in the past year, the lawmaker highlighted the installation of solar-powered street lights in two local government areas, the donation of a security bus to vigilantes, and the personal distribution of rice palliatives in December 2023 and January 2024, among others.

He disclosed that he has sponsored several bills and moved some motions on the floor of the House within the first year in the Green Chamber.

He promised to construct two blocks of classrooms in each local government, construct a perimeter fence at Ebenezer Primary School in Asi, Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, complete the third phase of solar street light installation in Odo-Otin Local Government, empower more women and youths, and supply fertilizers to boost food production in his federal constituency.
