In order to meet its financial obligations now and after the raging COVID-19 pandemic, the Lagos State University, Ojo, has constituted a 21-member committee to develop strategy for financial sustainability of the institution.
The committee is headed by a former dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and current director of the LASU Centre for Planning, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, while Mr. Aderemi Fashola, a Senior Assistant Registrar (Council Matters) is the secretary. The chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Lagos State chapter, Ms. Agnes Sesi, is one a member.
Inaugurating the committee via a virtual meeting, LASU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, said the constitution of the committee became imperative in the light of the financial challenges expected to confront the university in the wake of, and after the COVID-19 pandemic.,
LASU Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Ademola Adekoya, in a statement, said the composition of the committee cut across segments of the university from the management level to senior and junior academic and non-academic workers.
“We as an institution need to develop strategies that will help to address the challenges so that the university will continue to meet its financial obligations and run smoothly after COVID-19,” he stressed.
He listed the terms of reference of the committee, which has only four weeks to deliver, to include, among others, identification of short and long-term income-generating opportunities, development of strategies to implement the identified opportunities to boost the financial capability of the university, identification of possible financial leakages in the system and then come up with recommendations on any other matter that may be directly or indirectly related to the committee’s assignment.
Responding on behalf of the committee, former dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Banji Fajonyomi, appreciated the management for deeming them fit for the assignment, and promised they would work hard to achieve the desired results.
