Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority prevented a potential diesel fire explosion early Thursday at Obadeyi, just before Ijaye along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
In an official statement from Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, it was confirmed that a tanker bearing the registration number JJJ 596 XX, fully loaded with diesel products, overturned at approximately 6:10 am, causing its contents to spill onto the expressway.
To avert the imminent threat of a fire explosion, LASTMA swiftly responded to the scene by dispersing onlookers and cordoning off the entire area.
Taofiq said, “Upon arrival at the scene, LASTMA personnel promptly contacted the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, as well as the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit, securing the environment against unauthorized individuals attempting to collect spilled diesel using buckets and jerry cans.”
Taofjq further confirmed that the Meiran Police Division dispatched officers to provide additional security at the site.
