A lady, simply identified as Rita, has allegedly killed her biological mother over alleged witchcraft.
The Point gathered that the incident happened in Umuogbo Ulo community in Enugu Ezike, Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The suspect was accused of strangulating the aged woman to death at midnight recently when the deceased was asleep.
Sources within the community informed The Point that Rita had returned from a nearby city where she had gone to make some spiritual consultations with a pastor.
It was gathered that the cleric she consulted over the situation of her life had claimed that her mother was a witch and that she had been standing against her success.
“Rita’s mother had been hale and hearty. In fact, neighbours that saw her the night before her death said she had gone to the community market earlier and returned safely. So, we suspect Rita killed her mother because of the way we found her in bed lifeless.
“Some people said they were aware that Rita visited a pastor who told her that her mother is a witch. These are the people who are close to her. When we were questioning her over her mother’s death, there was nothing concrete she said, other than that she woke and discovered that her mother had died,” a community leader who did not want to be named explained.
Meanwhile, in a video sighted by our correspondent, Rita denied the allegations.
Efforts to contact the Enugu State Police Command were not successful.
