A Magistrate Court in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Monday, sentenced a 29-year-old labourer, ThankGod Paule, to six months imprisonment for allegedly stealing a measure of rice, soft drink and other items in a shop.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Onah Glory, told the court that the convict committed the offence on December 5, at Alaro area, Ile-Ife.
The prosecutor said that the defendant broke into the shop of a trader called Sola Adeyanju and carted away a measure of rice valued at N1,000; two Biggie Cola, valued at N300; two bottles of 7up drink valued at N400; one pack of Spaghetti valued at N400; and five bars of magic soap valued at N500.
He added that the labourer also stole two packs of Instant noddles valued at N200; one pack of Rothmas cigarettes valued at N500; one pack of Benson and Hedges cigarettes valued at N500; and one Agbara and Halogin hot drinks valued at N400.
The prosecutor further alleged that the convict carted away one cup of chinchin, valued at N60,00; and one pack of Tiger Razor blade, said to be N300, all totalling N4,560, property of Adeyanju.
The offence contravened Sections 319 and 413 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
Paule, who pleaded guilty to the allegations, prayed for leniency.
Magistrate O. B. Adediwura sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option of one month community service.
