The Kwara State Government has directed all residents to register with the Kwara State Residents Registration Agency to enhance security and economic planning.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Press Secretary to KWSRRA, Abdullahi Baba, said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had mandated the registration, which will provide residents with a State Security Identification Number and card.
The statement read, “We are carrying out this directive across 96 registration centres in the state. We plan to establish more centres as the process continues, according to the Acting General Manager of KWSRRA Tajudeen Jimoh.
“We are also working with the Ministries of Education and Human Capital Development, Tertiary Education, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kwara State Social Investment Programmes, and others to mobilise citizens for the exercise.
“Parents, guardians, and students will be required to provide their unique SSID numbers when registering for exams, scholarships, grants, or social safety benefits. Moving forward, students admitted to state-owned tertiary institutions will also need to register as residents of the state.
“Anyone seeking government services will also need an SSID number. For example, a child registering for common entrance, JSS, SSCE, or other examinations must provide their SSID number along with that of their parent or guardian.”
The state has recently captured all government workers and pensioners in its database, highlighting progress in efforts to build a credible residents’ register.
The government emphasised that this initiative is crucial for security and economic planning, urging residents to support it for overall well-being and data-driven governance.
