KOGI State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers has described as false, media reports that a teacher in the state committed suicide as a result economic hardship, insisting that no such incident happened in the state.

Chairman, NUT, Kogi State Chapter, Thomas Ayodele, who spoke to The Point on Wednesday, debunked the report.

“No teacher in Kogi State committed suicide,” he insisted.

While calling on the press to be cautious of political gladiators who would wish to use the press for blackmail, he urged journalists and media establishments to verify stories from reliable sources before going to press.

“Sincerely, there was no such development in this state. When you reached me to comment on the incident, I called the leaders of the NUT in the three senatorial districts of the state,” he said.

“Apart from having a State Chairman, NUT has leaders in the three senatorial districts of the state. I called them and I asked them, but all of them said no teacher committed suicide in their respective districts,” the NUT Chairman noted.

Many of the teachers who were interviewed also clarified that there was no issue whatsoever with their salaries.

According to them, their salaries have been paid promptly under the current administration in Kogi State.
