The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised the alarm over purported vote-buying plans by some politicians in the state, alleging that there were plans by politicians to buy votes for N10, 000 each at the forthcoming House of Representatives by-election in the state.
The state chairman of the party, Mr Daniel Isah, said the party has been hinted of the alleged plans of the opposition in the state to buy votes from voters in the coming election that is slated for August 11.
He appealed to residents of the constituency not to yield to the bait, saying it is a clear indication that their future under any leader that emerges from such plan will be in jeopardy.
“Plans by politicians from other parties to buy votes at N10, 000 each have been revealed to us and we implore the residents not to yield to this bait, as it will ruin our people’s future,” Isah said.
Meanwhile, the flag bearer of the party in the forthcoming by-election, Mohammed Kassim Mabo, has called on voters to eschew the temptation to sell their votes during the election.
“I know that you will not want to sell your conscience for peanuts, but if they bring money, by all means take it. It is your money. It is part of your salaries, which they have refused to pay to you in the last two-and-a- half years, but vote according to your conscience,” he advised.
Mabo promised to complete all projects left behind by late Rt. Hon. Umar Buba Jibril, saying as a member of late Buba Jibril political family, he was part of every decision on every project embarked upon by the late Jibril.
“As a legislative aide to our late leader and Special Assistant to Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Speaker House of Representatives, I have been part of every project. I know where they are located and at what level they are, and I promise to ensure their completion within the ten months that I will be at the House of Representatives,” he assured.
