Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted 32 travellers around the Ifon area in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The victims were said to be returning from a burial ceremony in Edo State on Saturday when the gunmen waylaid their vehicles and took them into the bush.
It was yet to be confirmed if the kidnappers had made contact with the victims’ families.
The Public Relations Officer in Ondo State Police Command, Fumilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the abduction, said operatives of the police and the Army had been combing the forest to rescue the victims.
Also, Ondo State Commander of Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye said his men joined in the manhunt for the abductors.
Adeleye said his men were combing the Benin-Ifon to Owo forest in search of the victims, assuring that the operatives would take all necessary measures to rescue the victims.
It was along the Akure-Ifon-Benin axis that Oba Isreal Adeusi was shot dead by suspected kidnappers.
The monarch’s killers are yet to be arrested.
Adeleye explained that men of the Amotekun corps and other security agencies had been briefed and had since commenced a search for the victims.
