An alleged fraud has been uncovered at the Universal Basic Primary Education Board in Katsina State as scrapped computers were supplied to the board, instead of brand new computers, at the rate of N138 million.

The Chairman of the board, Alhaji Lawal Buhari Daura, who revealed the supply of the scrapped computers, said that a committee had been constituted to investigate the fraud and unravel the mystery.

“I have set-up a committee to investigate the issue. And let me tell you, whoever is found culpable, even if it is my son, will be definitely punished. We will not accept this kind of corrupt behavior,” he said.

According to him, it was after the distribution of the computers to the local education authorities in the state that the board realised that the computers were not new.

The state SUBEB boss disclosed that the board had queried officers directly involved in the supervision of the supply of the computers to ascertain their level of involvement in the scam.

Investigation by our reporter revealed that the scrap computers were bought by the contractor at the sum of N73 million, while the remaining amount was shared between him and some management staff of the board.
