The Katsina State Government has commenced the construction of a tomato processing plant in Danja Local Government Area of the state to reduce wastage.
The construction of the plant would save the huge annual loss put at over N50 million by the local farmers’ association.
Conducting journalists around the plant, the Head of Administration, Danja Local Government Area, Bello Abubakar, said government had redeemed the payment of about 70 percent of the contract to the contractor.
Abubakar added that the construction of the plant was in collaboration with the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology, Zaria.
According to him, the plant is expected to be completed this year. He added that when completed, it would generate income for both the state government, the council area and the tomato farmers
